HERE'S AN APPEAL BY BISHOP ART RILLERA-

An open letter from our Bishop-

February 14, 2009

Dear Friends:

Young people are our hope for the future of society. How they are formed and educated by their respective families, by our schools and by other sectors of society determine how they will cooperate with God's grace, how they will use their faculties and abilities, how they will cooperate with others in their service to society.
The St. Augustine Parish of Naguilian together with the whole Diocese started the St. Augustine School of Naguilian (SASN) to help in the integral Christian formation and education of young people, in prayer, dedicated study and active Christian life in society. At present SASN offers Preparatory Course and Elementary Education. The parents are asking for a high school. The parish and the diocesan leadership are in favor of the idea because young pupils will have additional years of formation and education especially in serving Christ the Lord and as devoted Christians help transform society.
The idea was thought of for some time already. It gained momentum because half of the old convent is weak and is about to fall. It is a fire hazard and an eyesore to the town.
Enclosed are perspectives 1 and 2 for the proposed high school building (we will choose one of them), a master floor plan for the convent, existing preparatory school, elementary school and then the future high school.
May we invite you dear friends to help us bring this dream to reality. It will be a great help to the young for years to come. I added in the attachments an estimate for each big part. Some individuals, perhaps a family, a clan or group of families, a graduation class, on organization from Naguilian or a Foundation might be interested to donate to the construction of a particular part like for example a classroom. Whatever you will contribute by way of prayer and whatever amount will be of great help. We pray that God will bless you with his gifts in return.
I wish you God's abundant blessings.

                                             Sincerely yours,
                                             +Artemio L. Rillera, SVD
                                                         Bishop

(If you wish to contact us regarding the Bishop's appeal, please use the form at the bottom of this webpage. Copies of perspectives 1 and 2, and the estimate of total costs will be provided upon request. According to Arturo Bananal, the restoration of "NAGUILIAN ACADEMY" maybe possible with this project..)

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW-

You maybe wondering if there are other Barangays which do not have any elementary school...Yes a few more, they are Aguioas, Ambaracao Norte, Angin, Baraoas Norte, Cabaritan Norte, Dalipaoen, Gusing Sur, Imelda, Natividad, Sili and Suguidan Norte. If you know anyone who are from these Barangays, please pass this information along. These can be potential projects for anyone, or any Naguilian Chapter. The municipality will provide teachers, but can not afford to build the school.

Projects-
                  By Naguilianders, for Naguilianders

The creation of this webpage has been inspired by a major undertaking of Pete & Velma Ferrer (Charter Members of Annak) and family to help fund a new school building  in Barangay Magungunay. Here's an open letter written for the Naguilian Academy Class '56 by Velma Ferrer...See the power of this phrase- "Ask not what Naguilian can do for you, ask what you can do for Naguilian"...

Dear Naguilian Academy Class '56,

Greetings of Peace and Love in Christ!

This is your humble classmate Velma Rimando Ferrer! Hello and how are you? I've been trying to contact you all dear classmates, NA Class '56. Kindly open your minds and hearts to what I have to share with you.
With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I have conceptualized this idea of building a school house in any barrio in our beloved town of Naguilian, La Union. I would like very much to invite you to please join me in this very noble venture to help those barrios which are are in need of a school house.
Last April 2008, my husband Pete and I with my daughter Edna and a friend visited Naguilian and asked Mayor Abe Rimando what our family can do to help our people of Naguilian. Mayor Abe presented to us his project to build a 2-room school house in Barrio Magungunay and also a school annex in Barrio Bariquir. Praise and thank God, it's exactly what we planned to do!
So our family started a fund raising campaign and when Mayor Abe visited us on October 19, 2008, we told him that we are ready to build the 2-room school house in Barrio Magungunay. Construction will start this November 2008. Praise and thank God!
As for the school annex in Barrio Bariquir, I took the initiattive and responsibility of accepting the project and so here I am inviting you all to please join me in helping build this much needed school annex.
