We are a charitable organization serving the town of Naguilian, and its people, anywhere they maybe in the world. We promote, develop, maintain, and protect friendly relationships among the sons and daughters of Naguilian, and other citizens and nationalities. We extend help, and in cooperation with others, to the citizens of Naguilian especially in time of need and distress. "Annak Ti Naguilian" literally mean "Children of Naguilian". Naguilian is a town of La Union Province in Northern Luzon Island of the Philippines. Naguilian was thought to be the home of the original Basi, a wine fermented from sugarcane. Criteria to become a member is broad- if you have roots from Naguilian, or married to someone from Naguilian, or a friend of a member, you can be a member. There are no boundaries where a member might be located. Because "Annak" does not have any boundary, attendance to meetings are not compulsory, as long as you attend one in your life time, or attend events like Naguilian Global Reunions, and "Annak" sponsored Cruises, or Fund Raising Events, and from to time to time, access this website to find out events, past, current and future. Introducing: Claire Floresca Soriano Miss Naguilian-2008 (See Damdamag for more pictures)
June 2007 Annak Ti Naguilian Picnic-Meeting, Bay View Park, Port of Oakland One-Year Anniversary of Our Website The creation of this WEBSITE was decided during this Picnic and Meeting of Annak in June 2007. In June 22nd, 2008, we will be celebrating its one-year anniversary. These 'Annak' members in the picture overwhelmingly approved its creation, and it was a decision that made 'Annak' the center of communication, or center of movement, if you will... Annak Ti Naguilian, unknowingly, became a global phenomenon after the creation of this website. We are no longer local. Anyone with access to the internet will find- what happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen, with pictures. Consider these statistics. Visitors to this website more than doubled in the month of May 2008, from April 2008. During the first year (June to May), there were a total of 1,584 visits to this website, and viewed 4,489 pages. About 20% were repeat visitors, and majority were new visitors. What this is telling us is that we are now known globally, although it has not yet reached its critical mass. How many people are there in this world interested of knowing about Naguilian and who has access to the internet? If you know the answer, then about 10% is the critical mass. If you like what you see and would like to support this organization, would you consider becoming a member? You will help Naguilian, in a small way...but collective efforts will lead to meaningful outcomes. Send your reply under CONTACT US now.

A very likeable and friendly person, he will be missed by many. My very first recollection with Mng Gil was, in Naguilian when I was 12 or so, he gave me something to drink, and I gladly accepted it. Then the first time we met in LA during uncle Charlie Benitez' funeral, remembered about the days when he gave me 'something' to drink. What a recollection after 47+ years... Nephews & nieces: Mark, Angela, Marissa, & Thomas -------------------------------------------- First Time Visitors to the Philippines Wevy Aragon brought her daughter Hazel Kim (also member of 'Annak') and grandchildren, Alex (10), Tia (8) and Nikki (7), to the Philippines for the first time. Their pictures were published in www.youtube.com, and search for 'thank you aragon'. Wevy donated $300.00 to Union High School of Naguilian during their Foundation Day, which was witnessed by the Mayor's entourage. The first-time visitors also donated a total of 6 basketballs to Naguilian Public Officials, Naguilian High School, officials of Bato Elementary School, and the Regional Girl's Scout Center. The grandchildren donated not only their books, toys and goodies to school children of Naguilian Elementary School and Bato Elementary School, but also their time and effort to read and speak to them. During their visit to the Regional Girl's Scout Center in Naguilian, Tia was given GSP Medals of Honor and handcraved wooden GSP Hand Sign of Honor after she recited and enunciated the Girl's Scout Pledge. The new visitors had a good time in the Philippines. They visited Naguilian, Baguio, Pagudpud, Vigan, Malasiqui, Makati, Paranaque, and Boracay. ------------------------------------------- DVDs to be hand delivered to Naguilian The historic visit of then Mayor Bobot Flores and then Vice-Mayor Abe Rimando to Suisun City, California- Naguilian's sister city, in 2006, was captured on video by Scott Corey, Public Information Officer of Suisun City. These were transformed to DVDs, copies of which will be hand delivered to Naguilian by Wevy Aragon during her next visit on February 13 through March 3, 2008. -------------------------------------------- San Diego Naguilian Association Induction Dinner-Dance- Updated Information Our Kakailians from San Diego were planning an Induction Ball this November 30th, 2007 (Day after Thanksgiving). It will be held at the Marine Cortsair Station, Miramar Officers Club, San Diego, from 7:00 PM to 12:00 MN. $35.00 per person. To hitch a ride from the Bay Area, please contact Wevy Aragon, our representative from Annak. For more information about the event, please contact Henry Dumo (Tel no TF), the newly elected president of San Diego chapter, or Ely Bananal at fsiely@hotmail.com. -------------------------------------------- Conversations with Bishop Artemio Rillera- While waiting for our flight from LV to Oakland, I had a one-on-one conversation with Bishop Art Rillera. He was interested in economic development for the masses of La Union, whom he deeply love. He mentioned that jobs are badly needed, so he suggested manufacturing. Products can be imported overseas for Filipinos like us to buy/consume. He suggested that among the topics we should put in our agendas should be: How can we help the masses of people in Naguilian? and to a greater extent, La Union? He said, we should help create jobs there. He sighted an example of other countries in Asia for their highly progressive economies. A war-torn country like Vietnam has become an economic power in a short 30 years. He asked me, why can't we do that? Why did they become so successful in business inspite of their short presence in the US? They came to this country as refugees, speak no english, and became successful merchants. While they are becoming successful in this country, their homeland in Southeast Asia, with communist government, is becoming economically progressive too. He actually gave me an assignment: That is to find out how did they do it? What happened? Is it the culture? Language? Politics? What? His real question was: What can we do for Naguilian? I have been thinking about that conversation since we parted, quite not know where to begin. Any thoughts on this? Please email me. Ed. HelenFloresca, Bishop Art Rillera, AnnetteEstepaAvestro ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2009 NAGUILIAN GLOBAL REUNION The seed for the 4th Naguilian Global Reunion in 2009 has been planted during the last Global Reunion in Las Vegas. During a visit of Mayor Abe Rimando and entourage in San Diego, the cast was set on stone that the next Global Reunion will be on February 20, 21, 22, 23, & 24, 2009, with the 23rd as the Balikbayan Gala Night. ----------------------------------------------- Mayor Abe Rimando's Visit To The Bay Area By Wevy Aragon I want to report to you that from Thursday, September 13th, 2007 to September 18th, 2007, Honorable Mayor Abe Rimando, his wife Denia, children Ringo and Gemma, grandchild M-M, and Honorable Congressman Butch Dumpit's wife, Joya, had successfully completed their Greater Bay Area trip that included a Marian Devotion and Procession to Our Lady of Peace in Sunnyvale, family visits and meetings that culminated in a first class hospitality welcome by our sister city, Suisun City, California official. The result was fascinating with abundant sunshine, right temperature, gracious Naguilian families and friends and an international shakehands and hugs between two nations-Naguilian, La Union, Philippines and Suisun City, California, USA. Kakailians, thank you for your kind support to our Naguilian officials and to Naguilianders. Touring Naguilian Officials is only part of our life's journey. We are always "on the road" and each time, we have an opportunity to see where we have been, to notice how far we have come, and to ponder how our journey has been with us. Let us thank manong Paul Nonog and ading Delia Vita, and the supporting casts (bida's and contrabida's including me) for a tremendous job excellently done. Kindly help in the preparation of our 2009 Global Reunion in Naguilian. Let us join hands to help our new administration with open heart, gentle mind and generous pockets. Let us also remember the spiritual words of our Excellency, Most High, Bishop Artemio Rillera. Aren't we so blessed? ****************************************************************************************************************** THE BIRTH OF A CLUB by HelenFlorescaRillera "WELL WEALTH CLUB" is the name that members of grade six class '59 and fourth year class '63 have chosen for the organization born from a reunion held last Feb 24, 2008 at THE PLACE, Natividad, Naguilian, La Union. On the initiative of 2 balikbayans, Raul Aromin and Mila Cachero Maines, 27 elementary graduates of 1959 and high school graduation of 1963, from different schools gathered after 45 years for a majority to rekindle old friendships and reminisce on past experiences both happy and not so happy. The group agreed to meet again next December to finalize plans for the grand reunion in February, 2009 as part of the Naguilian Global Homecoming scheduled for February 20-24, 2009. We are inviting all those "Annak ti Naguilian" who belong to the same batch of graduate, that is grade 6 class '59 and/or 4th year class '63 from any school even not in Naguilian to get in contact and become part of the group. Contact persons: From USA- Raul Aromin 503-658-2478 or 503-382-9114 MargieJacildoFabro 773-483-6846 or 773-945-6846 m.fabro@comcast.net From Phil- HelenFlorescaRillera 09 19 530-0551 arseniohelenrillera@gmail.com ******************************************************************************************** Security Vests Sent To Naguilian, Arrived At least 20 police safety vests were sent to Naguilian via balikbayan door to door shipment. We hope that this shipment will arrive in Naguilian in one piece. Previously, a dozen vests were sent via FED-EX, but only 3 arrived. These vests were donations from the City of Suison to Mayor Abe Rimando. Thank you, Mayor Sanchez of Suison City. As of 12/15/07, via email from our First Lady of Naguilian, Denia Rimando, the vests arrived in Naguilian safely, and untampered. Every single one accounted for. They are put to use immediately and Naguilian police force are now wearing them. We thank the City of Suisun, once again. *********************************************************************************** "SAMAKANA" Samahan Ng May Kapansanan Ng Naguilian The President of SAMAKANA, Maricel G. Aberin, was soliciting help to fund their medical insurance for one year at the cost of Php 36,000.(about $800.00). NAN management responded by donating $400.00. The other half may come from other organization(s). This maybe a legitimate project and worth supporting. Let us explore the possibilities. SAMAKANA is a non-government association of Differently Abled Persons of Naguilian formed in 2005 and witnessed by then Mayor Bobot Flores and ViceMayor Abe Rimando. Members belong to below-food-threshold level of indigence in Naguilian municipality. There were approximately 30 members of this group needing medical insurance. Signed papers, documents, and Articles of Incorporation, written in ilocano, were sent to NAN and subsequently forwarded to us. Annak Ti Naguilian will include this for discussion during the upcoming meeting on November 11th, 2007. More of SAMAKANA after the 11th. As of 11/11/07 Annak has pledged to contribute $100.00 for 2008. **************************************************************************** 3rd Global Reunion of Naguilianders The 3rd Naguilian global Reunion and multi-year high school graduate celebration at the Gold Coast Resort in Las Vegas was a huge success, according to some observers, and not too successful, according to some. In my perpective however, coming as one of the planners, I believe it has done more good than bad. Aside from having a mini-class reunion of '64, we met another long lost classmate, since graduation in '64, Lolita Rillorta. This lady amazingly remembers all the names of our classmates from the 3rd grade under Mrs.Wenceslao in Bato Elementary School through high school in Naguilian Academy. As one of the co-host during the dinner-dance, at the beginning we had a hard time getting everyone's attention because everyone was talking. It was like a fish market. After increasing the volume of the microphone, only then people sat down, listen to the program and ate dinner. To me, it was all good and healthy to communicate to a long lost classmate, friend, barkada, or relative. That means that all of us has some catching up to do. And we did. follow). Another special award, the FredVitaAward, was given to VMayor Bobot Flores f One of our guests, Mayor of Suisun, was not able to attend, so a quick modification of our program had to be done. We introduced Mayor Abe Rimando and spouse-Denia, V.Mayor Bobot Flores and use-Neire, Congressman Butch Dumpit, Jr's spouse Joya, and his excellency Bishop Art Rillera, and the NAN officers. During a short address by Mayor Abe, he mentioned some of the progress Naguilian has done and some future programs on a powerpoint. He also announced the next Global Reunion in 2009 to be held in Naguilian. After Paul Nonog called on some officers of NAN and few leaders, Paul announced an acceptance by NAN along with Naguilian Sub-chapters of a joint effort with Officialdom of Naguilian to plan for the next reunion in Naguilian. The month and day was announced later to February 22,23,& 24, 2009. Washington weekend in US. Paul also announced that Evelyn Rimando Ramirez will be the ChargePerson for this big event. During the first intermission, after dancing for an hour, VMayor Bobot andlined-up, the Golden Jubilarians-57 Grads were introduced and came up to the front as their names were announced. After the multi-year graduate recognition, Annak Ti Naguilian member and former officer, Perla Cacdac Bautista gathered Paul Nonog gave special awards to Dr. Mila Estacion Viernes, Flory Montante, To Fred and Adel Vita, and another awardee (name to or his outstanding Publc Service for Naguilian during the past 8 years. The VMayor gave his message and praised the former VMayor of Suisun and now Mayor, Pete Sanchez for his leadership in introducing the sisterhood relationship between the Town of Naguilian and the City of Suisun to the City Council of Suisun. This relationship with an American City became one of VMayor Bobot's important legacy as Naguilian's former mayor and became a major envy from other towns in La Union. After the awards, came another round of dance, dance, dance. The band (called The Press) did some outstanding musical performance and they made sure that the dance floor was filled to capacity. Comments have been made that perhaps a Filipino Band would have done a better job. This suggestion is well heeded, and there will always be a next time. But 'The Press' was well received and it was recommended and donated by an engineering group headed by Ely Bananal (If I am not mistaken). Thank you to the engineering group. During the 2nd Intermission, Delia C Vita (Class '66 Caloocan High) and Decima Cacdac Molina ( Naguilian Academy Class '65 Valedictorian) presented the pre-57 high school graduates and the post-57 Grads. While the post-57 Grads were a few singers at the center and sang O' Naraniag A Bolan, Naguilian-Naguilian (lyrics and music composed by her) and some ilocano songs. Thank you Perla for your musical talent. The event was already enjoyable but you made our night more enjoyable and more engaging. At midnight, The Press stopped playing, but dance continued with CD music. We finished the night exhausted from dancing, joyed for being at this event, and loved-for meeting our 1st love, 2nd love, 3rd love...once again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- | |
