The last 2 will be followed of Barangay Fiestas. Gusing Sur's Fiesta was accelerated to held on the 5th to accommodate the Balikbayans and the Missioners. The Mayor also changed his stand on transportation. Now the Municipality will pay for the people's transportation from Barangays to Naguilian Civic Center. We gladly agreed with this change.

                                                                                 ************************************************************************************

This schedule for the mission was suggested by Mayor Bobot and Staff, and we gladly accepted. This schedule/proposal was based on years of experience/observations providing healthcare for the townspeople, and how this effort can increase efficiency in healthcare delivery, at the same time minimizing travel/cost/aggrevation for our Kakailians. We are excited to be able to meet Kakailians at the grass roots level. Personally, I can not recall if I have ever been to Balecbec, and to a lot other barangays for that matter. My Canon will be ready-for documentation.

The plan this time is to pre-screen people who will be seen. The ones who truly need medical attention and has to be recommended by the Barangay Health Workers who specifically know members of their respective neighborhood. Excellent idea! Our efforts will be "meet the needs" of our Kakailians! A specific form has been designed to facilitate documentation of consent, medical history, lab work, doctor's notes/diagnosis, pharmacy, and wellness/follow-up advise. These forms will be gathered for reporting purposes, to know the wellness status of our kakailians, and to gather statistical data of our townspeople.

The mission has been expanded to four days to accommodate more needy Kakailians and incorporating the fiesta events at the end of the 4th day. Based on what happened in 2009 Mission, and knowing the "all out" planning style of Mayor bobot, the 4th day is the day you cannot afford to miss. The Officialdom is in total control. All you have to do is: BE THERE!!!

Stay tuned for the summary report in full color by mid-February 2012, in this webpages...Thanks for your interest.

Mission Theme: "WELLNESS, EDUCATION & TECHNOLOGY FOR PROSPERITY & LASTING PEACE IN NAGUILIAN"

During the 2012 Medical/Dental Mission, we will combine education and wellness for the ultimate goal of achieving progress & prosperity, and eventually peace in Naguilian. Without Health and Wellness, there can no Prosperity. Without Prosperity, there can be no Peace. Without Peace, there is no Naguilian. We have a very important mission this time around. To attain those goals, we will have a Symposium on Health and Technology a day before the mission. We will line up speakers on relevant topics which will enhance and promote wellness, progress, and prosperity. Where will you be on these days? Will you be there?

Tentative Schedule of Events:

   Jan 30-Monday -      Preparation/set-up for the mission

Jan 31-Tuesday-      Symposium on Health and Technology

   Feb 1 - Wednesday-Day 1- Medical/Dental Mission

   Feb 2 - Thursday-     Day 2- Medical/Dental Mission

   Feb 3 - Friday-          Day 3- Medical/Dental Mission

Feb 4-  Saturday-     Thanksgiving in Bato

Feb 5-  Sunday         Mass St Augustine Church

Details of the above events will follow in the weeks to come. So stay tuned. Judging from the events in 2009, there maybe some surprises that administration will put out. You have to there to find out!

This letter was published in the Souvenir Program, during the 5th Naguilian Global Reunion in Vancouver,Canada on July 2-3, 2011.

Greetings to all Naguilianders,

When it was time to cast my vote, I opted to go to Vancouver, but due to circumstantial family challenges, my long awaiting attendance to the Global Reunion has been held back. Nevertheless, my spirit and prayers will be with you throughout this occasion. I would like to talk to you about a subject dear to my heart.

Annak-ti-Naguilian is once again planning for another medical mission in Naguilian in 2012. You maybe asking yourself- Again? Another appeal? Me, joining? I am scared…Too many shootings…No time…Too expensive…I do not know anyone there…No more vacation days…I am out of work…I am having my own recession...etc. All were valid concerns.  But let me explain WHY we do go...

During the 4th Global Reunion in Naguilian, and while performing the first day of our mission, a true sense of love for Naguilian and its people struck me by the heart. It was my first time to get involved in medical mission and how sweet it was to deliver one to our hometown. I was touched by the number of people from all over Naguilian, from remote barrios like Balekbek, to see a doctor for whatever ailments they may have. It was particularly touching to see many malnourished children being carried by their moms, waiting to be seen. One might say-It's not my problem…Yes, it's not your problem, however your true answer may come from your heart, knowing that you have the capability to give them a hand, even in a small way. I spent most of my life in the US working in healthcare industry, but when I saw the conditions that first day, I thought, wait a minute, those people were NO strangers to me. They were my folks, with familiar last names, and my own Naguilian townmates, and so right there and then, I will do all I can to give them a hand. Yes, there will always be suffering, malnutrition, and problems in this world we live in, but if I can only help a very small portion, I would do it in my hometown, our hometown, our relatives, and our friends, from the place we grew up, place we went to school, and our place we call Naguilian. Whether you agree or not, this, my fellow Naguilianders, is a true love of Naguilian. It is payback time.

This mission is not my mission. It is our mission. If you love Naguilian, then it becomes your mission as well. My family and I may easily write a check for this mission, but doing so will cut out a huge aspect of the mission experience. I am challenging every Naguiliander to get involved. If you can, it is a very uplifting experience, knowing that the people being helped were your own. Or in a small way, donate for this cause. Yes, every cent will go to medicines and nothing else. Every cent will make a difference, and by doing so, you will become a part of the mission. How? Because you will directly impact the well-being of everyone who will show up during the mission, consider the effects of the multi-vitamins for the children. I am asking you to do this.. If you would kindly leave a check to NAN for this cause-Medical Mission 2012, our needy townmates will be grateful and will greatly appreciate your gesture.  I am fully responsible and accountable for all donations. Volunteers from the US, or elsewhere, will pay for their own expenses, and it will be a big sacrifice on their part just to volunteer. Please be a part of the mission...It is time to payback.

A donation of $1 will help one townmate. Our goal is to raise enough for 3000 townmates. Donations in kind is also an option, such as a pack of chewable vitamins from Costco, in tablet form-not subject to breakage and weigh less. Please direct donated goods to Charity Avena from UNLUCAI-Sacramento.

I would like to wholeheartedly thanked the folks who donated in the past missions, especially Josie Nonog's employer-Mr. Bassam Shlewet of TTT money Corp., London, who contributed a total of $2000.00. Other names, will not fit in this letter, were listed in the website under Lists of Donors. A box of medical supplies from San Diego was a real relief and was fully used. I would also thanked the many volunteers who helped and made the past missions a success, to name a few: Amy Ganaden Thangamani,RN, Lolita Rillorta, Leo florendo, many doctors and dentists from Naguilian, a medical team from the Navy and a medical-dental team from the National Police, a team of dentists from the La Union Dental Society, and the unsung heroes of Naguilian-the Municipal Medical-dental team of Dr.Severo Dumaguing, and Dra.Mila Viernes, and her cadre of relatives, who painstakenly prepared the medicines in aliquot portions, and many others and students whom I may have missed. In behalf of the people of Naguilian and all Annak ti Naguilian members in the world, I cannot thank you enough for all you have contributed and sacrificed for, no matter how small.

On the days to come, I will be posting more answers as to "WHY Do We Go" in our webpages: www.annaktinaguilian.com, under Medical Mission 2012. I would love to hear your comments, suggestions, critiques, anything from you. AnnaktiNaguilian is registered with MedicalMissions.Org.

HAPPY 5TH NAGUILIAN GLOBAL REUNION. TATTAN NAGUILIAN! God bless.

MEDICAL/DENTAL MISSION 2012

The planning for the next Medical/Dental Mission in Naguilian, La Union, Philippines is now underway. As of July 1st, we are about 7 months away. It will be held on February 1-3, 2012 (Weds-Friday). If you are interested in joining, please contact us via the form at the bottom of this page. Just like our mission in 2009, 2012 is not an election year, therefore Officials and Leaders of the town will be more focused on the welfare of the people, rather than the election. "There will be peace in the valley.." Experience tells us that this time will be more organized, will be bigger, and it will be another event you do not want to miss. Please view Medical/Dental Mission 2009-2010 and the Reunions-Global pages. Where will you be on the first week of February 2012? Consider joining us!

Graduates of Class'62-jubilarians, will be celebrating their 50th anniversary. This is a large, active group. A Mission will not be complete without spiritual recollection. You guessed it! Recollection will be a big part of the mission.

As the planning unfolds, it will be updated here, so stay tuned.

Theme for the mission: TF.
